Significant Translation on the Economics of Gender Presented in Albania

The economics of gender was at the focus of two events organized in Tirana on November 10, 2022.

Dr.Joyce Jacobsen, author of "The Economics of Gender", presented the audiences with the body of work she has been developing throughout years of research in the field.

During her visit in Tirana, Dr.Jacobsen, who is a professor of economics at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY, and at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, met with experts of economics and lecturers of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tirana.

Her research provides a comprehensive and up-to-date framework on the changing economic opportunities, activities, and rewards for women and men.

Dr.Jacobsen generously donated to the faculty a number of copies of the Albanian translation of her book, which focuses on contemporary American models in economics, but it also integrates a unique international comparative perspective.

The publication reflects on different economic policies by comparing several welfare programs. It is constantly reviewed by the author in order to include new data and examples, as well as to reflect the most recent research in the field.

"The Economics of Gender" is a straightforward and thought-provoking work. It is reader-friendly for those with little experience with economics, and of particular value for students of economics and women's studies.

Its translation in Albanian comes as a collaboration between Friedrich Ebert Foundation's offices in Tirana and Pristina, and thanks to the insistence of the Agency for Gender Equality of Kosovo to have this publication in Albanian language in universities of Albania and Kosovo.

We now hope that it becomes part of the higher education curricula, and that it ignites the same sparks it did as during the discussions with students and lecturers.
