Religion or political mission?

This week the Friedrich Ebert Foundation has organized an event about Islam.

There were discussions about the force of attraction of Islam, especially in the case of younger people in Albania, and how their religious and cultural traditions contributed to the Albanian society.

The Ethnologist Dr. Jesko Schmoller from Germany has presented some insights from his current research project about Islam. Afterwards a panel discussion with the following experts took place:
> Prof. Dr. Udo Steinbach: Islam Expert
> Lauren Luli: Deputy head of the Islamic Community in Albania
> Dr. Michael Weithmann: Balkan Expert
> Sabaudin Jashari: Albanian and Islam Expert

The audience was composed of students and members of the Muslim community in Albania, and they took an active part in the event. In the last part of the meeting, they discussed in groups what the impact of Islam in their society was, and how religious philosophy could be incorporated in a modern state.
