"Simulation Game on Local Politics: There is no State without Youth"

Since 2010 the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) has been implementing in Albania the project "Simulation Game on Local Politics: There is no State without Youth" with the aim of arousing youth interest in local politics, promoting youth engagement and creating mechanisms of dialogue between local actors.

During 2019 this project was implemented in the municipalities of Berat, Belsh, Përmet, Elbasan, Patos, Durrës, Pukë, Fier, Kukës, Divjakë, Kolonjë, where 387 high school students became part of this project and learned the fundamentals of the political system in Albania, local politics, decision-makers, key issues and their selection based on democratic and transparent debate and dialogue.

Simulated council meetings were also the highlight of the simulation game this year. Young people, in the role of city council members and local politicians, approached each other, took their role seriously, discussed, argued, exchanged ideas and opinions, took proper responsibility for the arguments and decisions made.

The simulation game is generally aimed at young people, although in Albania it can be said that all local actors are direct or indirect beneficiaries. The direct beneficiaries are young people, mainly high school students, as well as municipalities, municipal councils, education departments, schools, etc.

This project served as a stimulus for cooperation, trust and understanding between the local government and the youth, by bringing into attention the youth potential and issues that do concern the young people.
