FES - 25 years in Albania

On 20th of June 2016, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Tirana celebrates its 25th anniversary. The Event focused on “25 years of social and democratic values in the Albanian discourse”.

It is already a long journey for FES in Albania which corresponds with the pluralism of our country. FES has accompanied the Albanian society in 25 years of transition and has tried hard to invest in the development of socio-politic environment through capacity building / trainings, studies, strategies, networking, incomings in Germany and Albania, policy papers, direct support and cooperation with civil society organizations, public and private institutions, trade unions, youth organizations, media etc.The democratization of the Albanian political and social life also is the key of our future commitment. The biography of Friedrich Ebert was published by FES in the light of celebration of the jubilee of FES in Albania. The philosophy of Friedrich Ebert is current for the social and democratic development and its principles should be strengthened in the country.

In this regard the event which took place on the 20th of June 2016 was focused on

“25 years of social and democratic values in the Albanian discourse”.

The event was welcomed by Mr. Frank Hantke, Director of FES – Tirana office and Mrs. Anke Holstein, Deputy Ambassador of the German Embassy in Tirana. 

Personalities such as Mr. Ilir Meta, Speaker of the Albanian Assembly, Mr. Servet Pellumbi speaker of the Albanian Assembly 2002-2005,  Arbjan Mazniku, Deputy Mayor of Tirana, Mr. Valter Ibrahimi, Diplomatic Adviser to the President of the Republic of Albania, Lediana Fratari, Foundation of Freedom and Democracy, members of the Albanian Parliament, members of youth political forums, well known journalist, colleagues of KAS and HSS in Tirana, German embassy, GIZ, KfW etc.

Prof. Dr. Rexhep Meidani, president of Albania 1997 – 2002 shared with the participants his experience as President of Albania and as an acknowledged political personality in Albania. The speech of Mr. Brenton Kotorri, a young activist as well as the translator of the Biography of Friedrich Ebert in Albanian, provided to the audience a fresh energy of the Albanian future of democracy and democrats.

The event was attended by more than 150 participants beside high ranking politicians and members of the Albanian Parliament, many civil society actors, trade unionists, academics, and members of think tanks and other partners of FES.
